Cadet History
On October 16, 1973, six area youth formed the Troy Fire Dept. Cadet Program with the aid of the firefighters.
The program was formed because of the interest shown by these youth in the fire service.
The original members were Tim Hurley, John Janssen, Steve Schwartz, Steve Skocy, Denzil Smothers and Larry Wagner.
The purpose of the Cadet Program is to train and familiarize the cadets in Fire Department procedures and fire fighting techniques. When the members reach 18, they can advance to firefighter upon passing the Illinois Fire Commissions Basic Certified Firefighters Exam.
Cadets that have become firefighters are: Tim Hurley, John Janssen, Steve Schwartz, Denzil Smothers, Gary Gier, Dave Gray, George Muentnich, Joe Skocy, Dan Anderson, Dave Anderson, Doug Anderson, Leon Bergman, Bob Hurley, Glen Howard, Craig Chapman, John Wilhelmi.
The Cadet program has been upgraded and the cadets have been taken into the ranks with the firefighters, and have been assigned to officers.
