Kerry Sheridan
Kerry Sheridan's accomplishments to Troy Fire Protection District for the last 30 years have been outstanding. Since he helped in the organization of the Fire Department in 1955, while attending JJC, he first served as Department Secretary and then in 1960, he was elected Fire Chief. When he took over the department, it only had ten sets of coats and boots. Within two years he had 45 volunteers and equipment for all of them. In 1973 he started one of the first fire cadet programs in the state, and today it is very active.
The following year, he was appointed to the JJC Fire Science Advisory Board, where he still serves. Also, he advanced the Fire District by helping to provide the best equipment and facility available. He provided a classroom in a new facility for JJC to offer off campus classes in fire service. Also, progressing to better serve the fire district, he organized an Ambulance Service for recruiting and training new EMT's. The Ambulance Service went into service May of 1980.
Today, Troy Fire District stands as one of the best trained volunteer, equipped and enthusiastic departments in the state. Kerry achieved all this while working full time since 1955 for Illinois Bell Telephone and now for A. T. & T., and having been actively involved from Village Trustee to County Board Representative.
