Troy Fire Protection District

The Troy Fire Protection District is pleased to announce it's appointment of Steven Engledow as the Chief of the District effective April 1, 2009.  The three District Trustees are confident Steve’s knowledge and experience will benefit the citizens of Troy Fire Protection District.

Steve Engledow has served in the fire service since 1973 starting with Frankfort Fire department, Country Club Hills Fire department, Joliet Fire Department and most recently East Joliet Fire Department as Assistant Chief. He retired from Joliet Fire Department as Deputy Chief in 2007. He became a paramedic in 1978 and served as Joliet’s first Division Chief of EMS. In Joliet he was responsible for EMS/Ambulance billing, Mass Gathering Operations, HIPAA manager, Infection Control Officer and EMS Vehicle Specifications. 

Steve Engledow served the City of Joliet Fire Department for 28 years before retiring and has also served as an instructor for Joliet Junior College, Will/Grundy EMS system and Harper Community College.  Steve has an Associates degree in fire science from Joliet Junior College, a B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University in Fire Administration and has obtained Executive Fire Officer from the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland. He serves on the Illinois Fire Chiefs EMS committee and has co-chaired the EMS committee’s educational conference subcommittee. He also has served on the Region 7 EMS committee and was a past member of the Wisconsin Physicians Education and Training Board (Medicare) for the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.

Steve Engledow has received the firefighter of the year award, the EMT/Paramedic of the year award and the Dr. William E. McConnell award, which is the highest EMS award in the Will/Grundy EMS system. Steve Engledow currently lives in Joliet with his wife Sherry, son Andrew and their Black Lab Oliver.
